Ok, so my boyfriend and I had a discussion today: When is a drawing a drawing, and when is it tracing. In his opinion, making a drawing with a picture as reference is not art, because the picture is art, therefore you are just copying someone elses art.
Though, to some extend, I agree - it is sort of "cheating" not to think of your own concept - and I'm not saying that I agree, just look at my gallery, you'll see which point of view I have! - I do think there is some truth to the point - if you are always only drawing exactly what you see in an image, the art-part of the drawing is how you decide to draw the lines and shadows that you see. Maybe then it's more a handcraft than art? But where would the line be, then?
For example, I've made drawings where I used a picture as reference for some part - maybe placing the arms and legs correctly and make sure they're not out of proportion - but then I've changed their facial expression, the clothes, the background. Is it then "tracing" (or handcrafting) or art?
Oh well. I think in a way, it is all art to me. They're just different degrees of impressive. Or different kinds?
I'm very impressed with many artists here, who are using picture reference. I really think they're amazing. But I don't think I myself is good enough to rely only on my drawing skills. I feel that if my drawings should be impressive, I'd need to do something outside picture reference-drawings. So that's sort of where my artist block is stemming from. I want to come up with something unique, make it without looking at a photo. But my brain is empty of ideas.
Still, I'm sure it will come. I have other hobbies, too, and even if I take long breaks from all, I don't give up. Sometimes a break is healthy

eBook release: Cosplay Materials
A long time has passed since my last journal entry here. I guess I just can't keep up with that many social media at once! I do think I have news that are big enough for me to share here in my journal:
I PUBLISHED A BOOK!
Well, it's a short one, but I'm still proud that I finished such a (for me) big project! The book is about cosplay materials and is targeted at cosplayers who want to get into armors or perhaps are already making armors, but don't know that many different materials. The book describes the properties of a lot of different materials such as Worbla, foamboard PVC, LEDs, resin, car vinyl, Kobracast, EVA foam - and a lot more.

In less than a month, the Danish convention SVScon takes place, and I participate in a cosplay contest there. It's only my 2nd contest ever, so I am very nervous, but also excited.
Here's the costume I will participate with - without make-up, though.
Wish me luck!
Cosplay madness
Wow, it's been so long since I updated this!
A lot of things happened since last - I went to my first cosplay contest! Didn't win, but I had a great time, and now I just want to improve my skills even more! I went to other conventions, too - experienced my first post-con depression (well, not really, just a 1-day sadness after coming home from an awesome weekend, hehe). I've seen both big cons and a small one this year, and they were fun in their own ways. I hope I get to see an international one some day soon!
This year, I've finished my druid costume, I've finished (well, almost finished) my Giselle cosplay, I've redone my Galadriel one an
Cosplay on Facebook
Yesterday, I decided to make a facebook page, so now I am going to shamelessly promote it here in my journal!
My page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Skymone-cosplay/597538356925855
It's meant as a progress page, a place for me to post my WIP pictures of my costumes to show the work process behind my cosplay. If you're curious, take a look, follow if you like :)
In two weeks, I will be participating in a cosplay contest at one of the conventions in Herning, and I'm working hard to finish my costume on time!
